Description of Nilgiris
The Nilgiris is the smallest district in Tamilnadu consisting of Five Taluks namely Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri, Gudalur and Kundah.. Ooty and Coonoor are the two Towns and Kotagiri is the smaller town. No major event of violence has occurred and the residents feel very safe in this place. One Can have tension free life and all the places are within a reach. 

There are good Hospitals in Nilgiris for Emergency and only in exceptional cases one has to go to Coimbatore for treatment. Doctors from Coimbatore visit leading hospitals in Ooty and Coonoor once a week.

Ooty - 95 km from Coimbatore

The Maximum Temperature is 25 degrees Centigrade and Minimum 0 degrees during winter.

Coonoor - 75 km from Coimbatore
Coonoor is the Trade Center for Tea and the Tea Auctions are held in Coonoor. Almost all nationalized banks are situated in Coonoor being a Trade Center. Though Tea Factories are situated in between the Plantation the emission coming out from the factory is harmless. Kotagiri

Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR)
Nilgiri Mountain Railway is the world famous Railway and Second in India. It starts from Mettupalayam (the Foothills of Nilgiris) to Ootacamund and there are 18 tunnels and more than 40 bridges built by British. This is the only Railway the Train is pulled by Steam Engine devised by Swiss Engineers. There is a pinion in between the tracks and the maximum speed is 20 km per hour. One can enjoy the natural beauty of Nilgiris during this journey and without the train journey the trip to Nilgiris is incomplete.
